~ Why Choose The Wilds ~
Choosing the right preschool is about more than simply preparing your child for kindergarten, it’s about shaping how they see themselves in this big world, how they interact with others, and the amazing things they are capable of doing.
This program was created for families who believe childhood deserves something deeper than rigid schedules, outdated expectations, standardized testing and a one-size-fits-all schooling. It is our perspective that real education should always begin with connection. Because of this we build strong, trusting relationships with each child and meet them exactly where they are developmentally, emotionally, and intellectually. We know that when children feel safe, seen, and valued, curiosity naturally ignites and real learning can begin. What is real education? Experiences they feel and remember.
Because our teachers have a genuine passion for child development, and the ability to create purposeful learning organically through engaging and relatable activities, our students are brought into a meaningful relationship with their own learning. With low ratios and masterful reflective practices, The Wilds offers something most schools cannot:
self-empowering, hands-on, child-led learning in a joyful setting.
Ok, but there are tons of other programs out there that do the same thing, right?
Beautiful marketing and packaged curricula cannot replace something far more important: educators who deeply love children, are passionate about their work and understand how to implement activities for purposeful outcomes. Unfortunately, the childcare industry is struggling to bring in educated teachers so the quality of programs is typically executed through marketing, but not in practice. Many programs offer children fun and socialization, but very few are bringing true education and opportunities that are actually tuned in to children's evolving development.
The Wilds sets itself apart with teachers who are dedicated early education professionals bringing knowledge, warmth, curiosity, and joy into every interaction because this is exactly where they want to be every day. Their enthusiasm and purposefulness create moments of discovery that children carry with them for a lifetime. This school is willing to envision something different and shake up early education. Our goal is to serve this community by raising the bar of early education through a conscious effort in building up our students in ways that invite them to extend their interest and curiosity, take healthy and calculated risks, and learn that connecting to their truest self is the key to their own success.
If not a labelled or boxed curriculum, what are you doing then?
Our classrooms are built around evolving, hands-on experiences that invite children to explore, question, create, and discover. This means our teachers are filling the room with intentional opportunities to meet specific goals in an organic way. Rather than rushing children into skills they are not yet ready for, we support development by building learning foundations at a natural pace while nurturing emotional intelligence, confidence, and a willingness to take healthy risks. Through connective play, collaborative projects, nature exploration, storytelling, and creative expression, children continue to develop skills that stay with them long after they leave our program. We actively support children to practice building resilience, empathy, and problem-solving skills. When we focus on the whole child's development, they not only learn what they can do, but how to remain confident in the capable person they are.
Why would I pay for a program when I can go to GA PreK for free?
Valid question. GA Pre-K can provide a valuable introduction to the elementary school environment and helps children become familiar with structured routines, classroom expectations, and the rhythm of a traditional academic setting. However, these classrooms are large and fast-paced, which can make it challenging for children who are still developing social-emotional skills or who may not yet be ready for more rigid expectations of standardized schooling. In such settings, individualized learning can be difficult to implement as teachers must balance the needs of a full classroom with limited resources. Additionally, the structured schedule may limit opportunities for extended, child-led play and deeper exploration. While many families have positive experiences and there are truly dedicated educators within the program, they may wish to take a more personalized and connective approach to education which is why we designed an alternative.
At The Wilds, we are guided by a well-established understanding of child development: children learn best through play. This refers to rich, meaningful interactions within thoughtfully designed environments- spaces where imagination can expand, conversations unfold, and stories come to life. This is the heart of our program! We offer a gentle, intentional introductions to formal education for families who value a more personalized approach, and one that allows children to preserve the wonder and essence of childhood while building a strong foundation for future learning.
We also recognize that there is no single “right” fit for every child. With that in mind, we are proud to provide a nurturing environment for families who align with our philosophy, while supporting our broader community and respecting each family’s unique educational journey, whatever path they choose.
What if I Home School, am part of a Co-op, or just looking for something a little different?
Our program is a great fit for families from all walks of life including those who think outside the traditional schooling model. We offer several different class time options including 2,3 and 5 day schedules for afternoon classes. We are a perfect enrichment for home-schoolers and co-op communities, at home/work from home parents, or perhaps even just a morning off for your nanny or grandparents spending time with your preschooler. The Wilds is for parents seeking a more conscious education that prioritizes humanity, creativity, and authenticity. We want to support the surrounding community however we can and create a space where families can truly feel a part of something bigger. A positive preschool experience is for every child, and we also know that families benefit so much from the community connections made here too!
Is this an 'academic program' where children are pushed into standard school readiness skills?
Not at all. Every practice within our program is grounded in developmentally appropriate methods, thoughtfully aligned with each child’s age and stage. We use a scaffolding approach, meeting children where they are and supporting them as they build, strengthen, and confidently master new skills. As students grow, our teachers intentionally expand their experiences, guiding them into new areas of learning while deepening their understanding. What we do find is that children who are supported in building strong foundations for learning gain school readiness skills with more confidence and resilience organically, which is our goal.
What we do especially well is take foundational academic areas (language, math, science, the arts, and social-emotional development) and thoughtfully weave them into engaging, meaningful classroom experiences. We invite children to explore and interact at their own pace, fostering a sense of curiosity and self-discovery. Rather than relying on rote memorization, we design projects and activities that are interactive, relevant, and inspired by students’ interests. When we are interested in what we are learning, it is a lot easier to want to participate, so retention happens naturally. Children are no different! Their desire to learn is fostered through our careful observation turned into invitations to engage with.
At the same time, we do understand the reality of the school system and what your child is expected to have accomplished by the time they get there. We are committed to preparing each child to the very best of their ability while maintaining our values and connective methods. Our goal is for each child to leave our program not only having mastered or exceeded the foundational skills needed for kindergarten, but doing so with confidence, independence, and a genuine love of learning.
Do you go outside or have a playground?
Yes we go outside! The property offers a bit of forested area to explore. Though we don't at this time have a formal playground, we will adventure into the trees for activities and bring nature inside to fuel our creations (safety checks will be done ahead of time). We will also have gardening opportunities through the year and walk through the growing seasons with each class. Though outside time may limited, we have a robust plan for keeping bodies moving! Our teachers know how critical the need for big body movement is and so we plan games, dancing and activities to include throughout the day.
If you find yourself wanting some time at the playground, Little Breaks has a fantastic indoor playground for 2 or 4 hour blocks complimenting our classes just one door away!
Is this a religious program?
We are called simply to be the best humans we can be. We stand for love, compassion, and authentic connection in community. We learn how to be better stewards of the Earth, respect all life that surrounds us, and how to love and respect ourselves as creators of our own reality. Giving language and recognition to values is practiced within the classroom highlighting concepts such as kindness, gratitude, patience, and integrity though we are not affiliated with any religion. Diversity is what makes life rich, and kindness is what makes it good; we sincerely invite and enthusiastically welcome people from all paths in The Wilds.

My Story
A Personal Note from Alissa Bryson,
Founder & Early Childhood Educator of The Wilds
I have not always seen teaching the way I do today.
A few years ago, while living in Seattle and going through some big changes in my own life, I realized something important was missing in my work. I loved spending my days with children, but the schools I worked in felt like they were missing...something. I saw teachers just getting through the day and I wondered where is the joy? Where is the connection and the magic that makes learning come alive?
During my time of healing and growth, I found myself surrounded by a beautiful community of teachers and meaningful relationships. I started taking risks in the classroom; I began to slow down, to listen, and to be more intentional with my teaching. As I became more reflective in myself, I began to see a beautiful transformation.
My students changed. They were more curious, more engaged, more invested. The classroom felt alive with purpose and fun. And something even more special happened: my relationships with parents deepened in ways I never expected. The trust and support we built together brought our classroom learning into a whole new dimension. It was in these moments that I truly understood what education should be- it should be connective. The student to their education, Parents to their children and their classroom, and us, the teachers, acting as an intentional hub in between all these relationships.
I made this school to breathe change in education and align our children with what this world really needs: Connection. This school was created to be a part of that change.
The name “The Wilds” comes from the feeling I have when I step into the forest: nothing makes me wonder in the infinite expressions of creation more than being in the wilderness. It is radical acceptance of every little thing that makes nature the marvel it is. We were made to be spectacular creators- our only limit is us. In a world where it is so easy to forget that, I am here to break that ceiling. I want children to know they are limitless and are the inventors of their own reality.
I hope your time with us is filled with warmth, kindness, and joyful discovery as we grow together in community.
With a heart full of gratitude,
Welcome to The Wilds.
